Crisis Communication Webinar

Thursday, May 1, 2025

1:00pm-2:30pm

In a time where churches are navigating both everyday challenges and larger crises that arise in communal spaces and grappling with the urgent need to “speak up” in the face of injustice, the need for a robust Crisis Communications Strategy has never been more critical. As part of the Leadership Formation series within the Thriving Leadership Formation program, this webinar will guide faith leaders through the process of developing a Crisis Communications Strategy tailored to your unique ministry context.

You will leave with:

  • A deeper understanding of the essential dos and don’ts of crisis communications
  • A crisis communication team structure, customized for your ministry
  • A comprehensive Crisis Communications Strategy outline specific to your ministry context
  • Sample statements for addressing potential crises your congregation may encounter

Led by: Catherine Slabaugh (Director of Communications & Community Engagement – St. John’s Lutheran Church) and Justin Wilson (Engagement and Resource Manager – ELCA Youth Gathering)

We will use the scripture from the coming week’s lectionary. This will be a spiritual practice of reading, reflecting, responding and resting in the Word. This is a great tool if you are preparing a sermon. If you are a lay person, you are invited to engage and participate! All are welcome.
